Evolution Korea
In the past the Korean scientific community was hesitant about engaging with the creationists out of fear of giving the movement more credibility. However, silence is no anymore an option.

The STR has been fighting to eliminate information about evolution from textbooks including the discovery that the feathered Archaeopteryx was an ancestral bird. This is only one aspect of the evolution of the development paradigm.
What is Evolution?
Evolution is a theory of science that explains the evolution of genetic traits over time. The theory is based on fact that living organisms adapt to their surroundings which can result in changes in genes or even complete genomes. These changes could over generations lead to the creation of new species. The most popular theory of evolution is called natural selection, which explains the process by which those with favorable characteristics live and reproduce more often than those with disadvantages. This differing reproduction may eventually lead to the development and emergence of new species.
The term "evolution" originates from the Latin word for unraveling or revealing, however the concept itself has a myriad of meanings since it took form in the sciences and in other fields. Some early evolutionists, including Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather), believed that existing species changed into other species in a predetermined fashion. Etienne Geoffroy St.Hilaire was Lamarck's embryologist disciple who invented the term "transmutation" to describe this view. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833 challenged this notion and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the idea that existing species evolve into new species in an orderly and predictable manner.
Recently, evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process that occurs when living things develop characteristics that enhance their chances of survival or the ability to reproduce offspring. Over time the genetic variability could cause the emergence of completely new physical or biological traits in the population. Such a variation in gene frequencies is known as natural selection and it drives most evolutionary change. However other changes that are not genetic, such as the increase in muscle mass from diet or exercise can't be considered to be examples of evolution since they're not inherited by future generations.
Despite the fact that evolution has stood the test of time and thousands of scientific tests however, creationists have taken advantage of the idea that the theory is controversial to argue that it shouldn't be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists won a few victories over evolution in textbooks for high school. This includes the removal of references about the evolutionary origins for humans as well as Archaeopteryx which is a feathered dinosaur that is believed to be the ancestral bird's first ancestor.
Why is Evolution important to humanity?
Evolution explains the origins and evolution of Earth and all living species. It also serves as a basis of biology that helps scientists learn how living organisms function and develop. Evolution also reveals the relationships between different species. Scientists study evolution to better understand nature and make useful discoveries, such as the development of new treatments.
The evidence for evolution is overwhelming. No other scientific theory can explain more about the universe and the life on this planet. It has been thoroughly studied and verified for many years. Many people, and even religious leaders, are in favor of the scientific theory. It is important to remember that evolutionary biology does not contradict religions, since the theory only deals with objects, events and processes in the physical world.
In fact many religious individuals have discovered ways to reconcile their beliefs with the theory of evolution. Some Christians, for example, believe that God created everything through evolution, and that humans share a common ancestry to other animals.
It is essential for science educators to advocate for the teaching of evolution. In certain countries, anti-evolution sentiment is growing. In the United States, efforts to restrict the teaching of evolution have made some progress in a few states. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC) is a campaign for textbooks that cover the evolution of horses and their ancestral avian species Archaeopteryx.
It is vital to remember that the evidence in support of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence for evolution comes from many sources, including fossils, genetics and the behavior of living creatures. Other scientists independently verify the evidence.
The majority of scientists supports the theory of evolution. The reasons behind this support are diverse. Scientists study evolution to make practical discoveries such as the development of new medicines, while others do so to improve animal and plants species, mostly to benefit humans. Some scientists are simply curious, while others have an intense belief in God.
What is Creationism?
Creationists believe that God created all things in the universe. They also believe that the Bible is the word of God and should be taken as such. Many creationists are Christians, but not all. Creationists are usually divided into two categories: Young Earth Creationists (YEC) or old earth creationists.
The YECs are perhaps the most well known type of creationist, and they believe that God created the universe in the exact way described in the Bible. YECs believe that the biblical account of the six days of creation is literal and that the universe and the life on Earth was created only recently.
OECs are not as well-known however they are as enthusiastic about their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe and all life on Earth are billions of years old, and they believe that evolution is an untruth.
Both forms of creationism deny that scientific theories such as natural selection and abiogenesis are able to explain the origin of life on Earth. They claim that evolution is impossible because it would require the creation of a miracle, and the scientists who founded modern science rejected miracles out of fear that they would lose credibility.
Some creationists accept both naturalistic evolution and special creation, and call their position "theistic evolution." This is also known as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of species created." In this theory, God creates the original species and then allows them to evolve over time. In the end the evolutionary changes produce new species that are similar to the original ones.
Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the universe in one event known as the Great Flood. They believe that all the species of the beginning were created at the same time and that they gradually evolved. 무료 에볼루션 deny the notion of abiogenesis and assert that self-replicating life can't come from non-living matter.
In general, creationists oppose the teaching of evolution in schools. 무료에볼루션 is supported by numerous professional organizations such as the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education, the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. However, certain researchers and educational institutions are more flexible and allow for the inclusion of both evolution and creationism in their curriculum.
What is Creationism in Korea?
When people think of creationism, they often think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolutionist group. The publishers of high-school textbooks announced recently that they will remove the mention of evolution in their editions. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent body that is an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR), has led this effort. The STR has won its first victory by removing from textbooks the evidence of the evolution and ancestor of the avian, called the Archeopteryx. The next step is to take out excerpts from Darwin’s infamous finch-research as well as on human evolution.
STR claims that it has the backing of 4,000 families as well as individual members. Its mission, it states is to clear the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" which portrays an image of students as being negative. It also seeks to counter the influence of American creationists in the country. A survey of trainees in biology revealed that a majority of them did not believe in evolution. The causes aren't clear but could be due to religious beliefs or the absence of full-time creation scientists across the country.
The KACR has accomplished a lot through its lectures and seminar events. It has a bimonthly news magazine, Creation, and has published books. The most notable of these is a text on the natural sciences, with an evolutionary perspective that sparked interest in college communities. In 에볼루션 사이트 , a professor, along with a minister, began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught today.
On August 6-7, 1993, coinciding with the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six lecturers from the world, including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of over a thousand. KACR members and KACR have also given lectures on creation science in major seminaries. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center.
